In POTC: Curse of the Black Pearl----Why did barbossa need bootstrap bill's blooD?

What was so significant about william turners blood? i know that he sent it to his son to have them cursed but why was he the one with the blood they needed to lift the curse? was he like the first one to take from the aztec gold or something?
