Hypnotized without volunteering?

i was at a party with friends and this guy wanted to try to hypnotize my friend with a swinging watch. as i was watching, for some reason my eyes kept following the watch and i started to get sleepy. i tried not to follow it but i couldn't help it and fell asleep. why couldn't i look away? i thought only people who volunteered could be hypnotized?
